"Google Mulls Premium AI-Powered Search Features: What It Means for Users and Competition"

HARGEISA, 4 - April - 2024 ( SGN) Google is reportedly contemplating the implementation of fees for new premium artificial intelligence-driven search features, as per a Financial Times report citing three insiders. The potential plan involves integrating select AI-driven search functionalities into its premium subscription services, such as Gemini AI Assistant in Gmail and Google Docs, while affirming that the core search engine will remain free with ads even for subscribers.

In response to the claims, Google stated to the Financial Times that it currently has no plans for ad-free search and is focused on enhancing its subscription offerings with new premium capabilities and services.

The statement from Google emphasized their ongoing efforts to innovate search, leveraging generative AI experiments, which have already garnered billions of queries and shown positive growth in major markets. However, the company refrained from making any immediate announcements regarding the matter.

Having debuted in 1996, Google's dominance in the search engine realm has only intensified over the years, overshadowing competitors like OpenAI's ChatPot, launched in 2022. Google further solidified its presence with the introduction of its own chatbot, initially named Bard and later rebranded as Gemini, alongside the introduction of subscription services in February 2023.
