Somali National Armed Forces Assume Presidency Security Responsibilities after 16 Years

The Somali National Armed Forces have officially assumed responsibility for the general security of the Presidency, marking the end of a 16-year period during which the African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) oversaw security for the Presidency and the Somali Parliament. The momentous event took place at Villa Somalia and was graced by the presence of Brigadier General Ibrahim Sheikh Muhyiddin, the Commander of the Armed Forces, alongside Somalia's President, Mr. Abdihakim Mohamed Yusuf, as well as representatives from the African Union and the United Nations in Somalia.

Under the leadership of President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, the transition signifies a significant milestone as the 77th Battalion of the National Army assumes the crucial security duties for the country's leaders. This move symbolizes a new era, reflecting the resurgence of the Somali Armed Forces, with a return of their arms and equipment.
